I joined the challenge to write 10,000 words today.
I will be updating this blog throughout the day with my progress (or excuses). Cheer me on as I get closer to the goal (or heckle me if I'm being a lazy, slacker bum and failing).
Also, join in the challenge and keep us updated on how many words you add today.
Current Status:
6:18pm - 1289 words
Unfortunately, I doubt I will reach my goal. But that's okay, I plan on writing all night and seeing where I end up. One of the big things I've noticed is that a huge goal like this is at odds with my process of writing. I don't like to rush because then I'm too tempted to go back and edit. And I feel compelled to rush in order to get a lot of words. I'm torn, but will likely take it slow and just do the best I can (part of me cringes at the thought of not hitting the goal though. I hate to fail!!!!)
1:50pm - 703 words
I had a bad feeling this morning and now I know why. The production manager at our main store quite this more and I've spend the last couple hours on the phone trying to get things covered. I'll be heading over to the main store next week to help get things organized. I won't get any writing done until after 5pm tonight. I'm hoping it just adds to the pressure!
10:40am - 540 words
Work is really hindering my progress (it's super busy today). I plan to write straight through lunch and then really dive in when I get home tonight.
6:46am - 0 words
Writing this blog. Does this count toward my goal? I'm very scared I won't be successful today...

You will be. Just focus. :-) No revising as you go either, just write. :-)
I agree with Jessica--don't look back today just steam on ahead. Good luck!
I'm at 3005! Woot. :)
Keep on writing.
Karen wow! I think I finished about 50 words before my kids got up. I'm breaking out the ancient laptop so I can write outside with them. Good luck to everyone!
I'm at 800. But picking up speed as I'm writing a chapter that I love. :)
You will be just fine! Keep going!
I'm at 2494. At this rate I'll never make 10,000 but will be pleased with whatever I come in at.
I thought you were going to log your status. How are you doing, Megan? Keep going girl!
Way to go Karen and Eileen - great job!! My lunch is coming up and I'm itching to put some words down.
Milli wanted me to tell you to report an update on the RSVP page of her site. http://millithornton.blogspot.com/2009/07/10k-day-for-writers-rsvp-page-for-july.html
I'm a smidge under 5k. :)
Karen that's awesome. And Eileen way to go! I'm at 1351, but I'll have to take a break for my girl's swimming lessons. Hopefully I'll be able to get more done this afternoon.
You can do it, just keep going!
The fact that you're even attempting this speaks volumes. You can do it!
Yay Megan! I'm so impressed that you are still going for it, even after a crazy day at work. You can do it!
I've been going slow all morning but now the baby is sleeping and I think I can get a big chunk done. I'm at 1518.
Hey! Look at your updates! Way to go Megan!
Megan, you're doing great considering your day. I have to fight to keep from going back and changing things too. Just remember you aren't failing-- even if you don't make it to 10,000! You are still getting a lot done and that's the point.
I've almost hit 3000.
Any words that you write today are progress so I wouldn't think of it as failing if you don't make the big one. I'm at 1,052 and I think I'll call it a day. I'm starting to fog up and doubt anything I write after this point would be worth keeping. Good luck tonight!
I haven't even started yet! Oh my! I will be up all night! Do the words I type here count???? Please tell me they do!
Megan, sorry life got in the way for you today. Maybe you will write more tonight.
I was inspired by your doing this to try my own version. I didn't sign up because mine is a rewrite, but I set a goal of 5,000 words and just made it! Tired but happy.
Hey Megan, I'm excited to see how much you got done. I'll check back tomorrow. I did 3675 and I'm done for the day. It actually turned out pretty well and I'm happy with the whole experience. Thanks for the challenge.
Okay, I'm calling it quits! I tried, really I did, but I can't write any more. I did manage about 1500 words--not even 1/2 of my goal, but that's more than I've written in a long time. Thanks for making me aware of the challenge, Megan.
I think it's great that you're even trying especially on a day when you work. I think I'd have to do it on a Saturday when the whole family is away.
That's a LOT of words for one day. I'm afraid if I got that many down, only a tenth would have any integrity. I'm dying to know if you kept at it and how far you got.
